International Women's Day 2024: Celebrating Women in Tech with Becky Corkish

As part of Manx Telecom Group's Women in Tech series for International Women's Day, we spoke to Becky Corkish, an Operations Coordinator for Smartroam, which is part of the Manx Telecom Group.

Becky has been with the Manx Telecom Group for 8years and has worked in a variety of teams, but joined the newly established Smartroam team in 2023. She finds that no day is the same, and with new partners coming on board, her role is constantly evolving which brings different challenges.

When asked what accomplishment she was most proud of in her current role, Becky said she was most proud of being given the freedom to shape her role. She said “As an Operations Coordinator, it means I get to be involved in all aspects of Smartroam from operational through to commercial.”

When it comes to women taking roles in the tech/telecommunications industry, Becky believes they are much needed to break the stigma.

She also believes that the most significant challenge women face in this industry today is “the persistent gender gap, resulting in underrepresentation which may put women off from applying for tech roles.”

Becky’s message to young women who might be thinking about a career in tech, is to “DO IT!” She strongly advises that if it’s something you’re interested in then go for it, as a variety of perspectives is invaluable, and the tech industry needs variety to push boundaries.
